On March 27, 2025, James Richard Roberts passed quietly in his sleep at the age of 84. Born on February 6, 1941, in Frederick, Oklahoma, Jim lived a life full of love, service, and dedication. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather.
Jim graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1959. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy from April 11, 1960, to February 9, 1965. Jim returned home and dedicated over 30 years as a reserve Sheriff’s Deputy, serving his community with pride and integrity. During this time, he also found his calling in the oil fields, working in valve repair and service. He married Alice in February 1975, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. In 1982, he established Bakersfield Valve & Supply and retired in March 2009.
Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors, camping, and traveling. His wonderful sense of humor could light up a room with laughter. He cherished spending time with his family and sharing many stories of his time in the Navy and his work with the Sheriff’s Department. He was the best example of love and family, and he will be greatly missed by all.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Roberts; mother, Barbara Roberts; and brother, David Leroy Roberts.
Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Alice Roberts, and a loving father to his daughters, Christina Robb (Daren) and Susan Brasier (Ken), and his son, Darren Braase (Tamra). He is also survived by his sister, Linda Reed. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren: Robert Laughlin, Tyler Robb, Justin Braase (Kellie), and Taralynne Riggs (Daniel), and 10 Great Grandchildren.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering support and kindness to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
