Arkansas lost one of its finest with the passing of Nancy Attwood Franklin on October 4, 2018, at the age of 92. Nancy was born in Fordyce, AR, in 1926. She was living in Nashville, TN, attending Ward Belmont (class of ‘46), when William A “Billy” Franklin, Jr. proposed to her. They moved to Fayetteville, AR, where they attended the University of Arkansas. Nancy was a member of Chi Omega and majored in home economics. When Billy graduated, they moved to the family farm, where Nancy courageously adapted to country life. She became active at First Baptist Church in Gallatin, where she loved and was greatly loved. She continued to live on the farm after her husband of 55 years died in 2003, until 2011, when she moved in with Bo and Terry and family. Nancy loved to play the piano. She taught Sunday school for 50 years, and the children absolutely loved “Miss Nancy”. She loved cats and had many, mostly Siamese, through the years, despite the fact that Billy didn’t “take” to them! Her family acknowledges and appreciates all the people who loved Nancy and who were loved by her. Nancy is survived by: daughter, Nan Franklin of Decatur, GA; son, William A “Bud” Franklin III (Gail) of Gallatin; son, Robert M. “Bo” Franklin (Terry) of Gallatin; daughter, Wren Franklin of Nashville; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and one last Siamese cat named Ree. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 7, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. She will lie in state at the First Baptist Church on Monday, beginning at 11 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12 noon with her sons, Bud and Bo Franklin officiating. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Burial will be in the Gallatin City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Samaritan’s Purse, P. O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
